The Open Championship is the ultimate golf tournament, premiering at Prestwick Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1860. The following eleven championships were also staged at Prestwick until 1873 where after St Andrews played host. Throughout the years an array of other great links courses have been inaugurated into the Open's circuit, such as Muirfield, Royal Troon, Royal Birkdale and Carnoustie to name but a few.
